Is there a connection between  Asthma and Allergy ?

Dr James Li from the non-profit Mayo clinic in the US thinks “Yes”.

He explains in a recent article that the same substances that trigger hayfever such as pollen, dust mites or pet dander may also cause asthma signs and symptoms.

An allergic reaction occurs when your body mistakenly identifies a harmless substance as a harmful invading one. Your body attempts to protect you by binding antibodies to the invading allergen and the chemicals released in this process ( such as excess histamine ) lead to you experiencing allergy signs and symptoms.

The National Asthma Council Australia also agree that there is a connection between asthma and allergy.

Serum specific blood testing for IgE such as offered by us here at Allergy Testing on Line can identify many allergic triggers such as those nominated by Dr Li:-  Pollen, Dust Mites, Pet Dander and many more.

Following testing results, a management and treatment plan devised by our health professionals can help to reduce in an organised way your exposure and reactivity to the things that are causing your discomfort.

As the Asthma Council put it with respect to Asthma and Allergy …

“Once your allergic triggers are identified, avoiding or reducing exposure to these allergens may reduce the chance of you having severe asthma attacks and help your lungs to work better.”
